INTRODUCTION: According to the Calgary-Cambridge Guides, a doctor’s goal in a medical interview is not just to extract information from a passive patient. Doctors need to make patients feel listened to and valued, to ensure mutual understanding and sustain an ongoing collaborative relationship. A range of communicative skills are involved in managing this section of the consultation.
